Fillers are used by Charlotte, NC dermatologists to help fight signs of aging in patients. Wrinkle and fine lines can leave people looking older than are and even impact people’s self esteem. Since your face is the first thing people notice about you, keeping it smooth and blemish free is a priority for many.
Your doctor may recommend the use of fillers to help reduce the appearance of, or even eliminate, these issues. But, the type of filler they use will vary depending on what you need. Below, we cover three types of fillers and what they are used to treat.
Traditional fillers. These reduce and eliminate wrinkles by filling the space before the wrinkles. Unfortunately, like most fillers, the results are not permanent, but you will see results right away.
Collagen stimulators. Collagen stimulators are a type of filler that is used to replace lost collagen and rebuild the underlying structure. Results may take some time to see as the skin repairs itself, but the appearance of your wrinkles will be reduced, giving you the wrinkle free skin you dream of.
Toxins. The thought of putting toxins in your face may seem scary. But, these aren’t your normal toxins. This type of filler is used to smooth lines and grooves, usually in the upper face. The injected toxin temporarily weakens or paralyzes the muscles, which eliminates the lines. It does take about three or four days for patients to see results and additional treatments will be needed to maintain results.
Your doctor will guide you
Thankfully, you don’t need to know which type of filler will give you the best results. Your dermatologist will decide for you after an examination and discussion of your goals. They will walk through your options and explain how they work, along with the pros and cons of each so you can make an informed decision.
