Microneedling: Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) overview

Microneedling, also known as CIT, is the most powerful technology in skin rejuvenation. Curious to know how it works? The CIT experience begins with a numbing cream that is applied, which takes approximately 20 minutes to take effect. While most clients only rate their discomfort at a 2 or 3 out of 10 at most, this cream allows for a minimal amount of discomfort during the entire treatment. Once the numbing cream has been activated, the skin is thoroughly treated on each area three times, with emphasis on areas of concern.

A medical precision tool with a unique, dual spring-loaded disposable needle cartridge that uses an automated, vibrating stamp-like motion to cause micro-injury to the skin is used. The gentle stimulation of fibroblast promotes natural induction of collagen and elastin without the stress of pain and lengthy downtime associated with ablative treatments. Micro-channels, resulting from the needles piercing through the skin layers, will aid in infusing therapeutic serums for greater penetration and enhancement of overall efficacy.  The result?  A major boost in collagen and elastin using the skin’s natural process of renewal to create smoother, glowing skin.

When is collagen induction therapy appropriate for a particular patient?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that aims to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars by stimulating existing collagen and elastin.  It is safe and effective. So, who are the most appropriate candidates?

Technically, collagen induction therapy can be administered at home or in a day spa, using a roller device. However, results are minimal compared to medical-grade treatment, and the procedure can be painful. It’s also possible for complications such as infection or allergic reaction to develop because these environments are not sterile.

Collagen induction therapy is appropriate for women and men who:

  • Are looking for skin rejuvenation. Often that includes reducing signs of aging such as facial fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Have any skin color or type. This is particularly important because so many other treatment options are not appropriate for everyone.
  • Have a busy lifestyle. Many people have personal schedules that are filled with work, family, and recreation commitments. Procedures are short, and there’s virtually no downtime. Repeat sessions are separated by 4-6 weeks, so scheduling is convenient.
  • Desire a non-surgical, non-invasive, or minimally invasive alternative – but want safe, effective results.
