PRP is a relatively new treatment option for Charlotte, NC residents who want younger looking skin. PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma therapy. You may have seen this treatment and not realized as many celebs have shared pictures of them undergoing this treatment. But, they probably referred to it as a vampire facial.
Why does it have this nickname? Because PRP uses platelets from your own blood to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and plump up skin.
How it works
Here’s how PRP works:
- Your dermatologist will draw a small amount of blood, typically from your arm.
- A lab will separate your blood into layers. One layer will have a high concentration of platelets.
- Finally, your doctor will inject the blood with the high amount of platelets into your face or scalp using either a syringe or microneedling.
PRP does not offer immediate results, so your doctor may also inject a filler so you see results right away. They will discuss this option with you if they feel it’s the best way to meet your goals.
Who can have it
Now that you know how PRP works, you may be wondering if it is the right treatment option for you. PRP can be used to help those who have deep wrinkles, sagging skin, poor complexions, and old acne scars. These can all leave people looking older and feeling self conscious.
Though PRP is an option to treat all these different options, it is not for everyone. You may not be a candidate for this treatment if:
- Have HIV/AIDs or Hepatitis
- Take blood thinners
- Have any type of blood cancer
- Suffer from cardiovascular disease
- Have untreated skin cancer
Thankfully, you don’t need to decide if PRP is right for you on your own. Your dermatologist will help. They can advise what treatments will best help you get the results you want and help you decide if a treatment you have heard of is right for you. Don’t hesitate to ask as many questions as you need to before going through with any skin treatment.
